1991 - Launch of the TEMPUR Mattress and Pillow
Ready for launch after 5,000 trials
In 1991, after more than 5,000 documented trials, the TEMPUR Material was finally ready for launch. The original idea had been to manufacture medical pressure sore prevention mattresses and cushions. During the development time it had even been noticed that TEMPUR was beneficial for rheumatic problems.
The back pain mattress and pillow
At the time of the successful mastering of the process technology it was proposed that TEMPUR also might be helpful to relieve back pain - being another orthopaedic ailment. Trials in cooperation with Swedish back specialists immediately confirmed this.
An instant success
The discovery of the benefits of TEMPUR for back problems dramatically increased the potential of the product. As more than 50 percent of all people suffer from various degrees of back pain, TEMPUR clearly had a great mission to accomplish. When the TEMPUR Mattress and Pillow were introduced to the public in Sweden, in the fall of 1991, the success was instant.
