Good advice for a good night’s sleep
- Your bed should be at least 20 cm longer than you are tall. A single bed should be at least 90 cm and a double bed at least 160 cm wide.
- The bedroom should be a place to rest and relax. The ideal room temperature is 18 degrees C.
- Noise and too much light can disturb your sleep, so it is important to make sure that your bedroom is dark and quiet.
- Air the room well before going to bed. This will make the air fresher and ensure that humidity levels are correct.
- Buy a good-quality mattress, pillow, bed base and bed linen.
- It is a good idea to follow a set routine at bedtime (reading or listening to music)so that your body is ready to relax for the night.
- Don’t eat a heavy meal or greasy and spicy food in the evening. Have a light meal instead.
- An adult needs seven to eight hours sleep on average. After the age of 50 this often drops to less than six hours.
- If you feel well and rested during the day, you are getting enough sleep at night.
